It’s hockey season and a time of the year when members of the Ottawa Police Association are active in the local sports community. Many of our members volunteer to coach minor hockey or are active in the figure skating community. Others can be found on ski hills throughout the region, with their own kids, or coaching others.
We wanted to pause for a moment to acknowledge our OPA volunteers working with a special group of local athletes. Ottawa Bandits, a group of fifty-one special needs kids, take to the ice every weekend. Under the watchful eye of volunteers, many of whom are members of the Ottawa Police Association, these kids enjoy the best of hockey — skills development, team play and physical activity. The attached video features many of our members and provides more information on the Ottawa Bandits program.
Thank you to everyone in the Ottawa community who volunteers to help kids enjoy sports of all kinds. Special thank you to our members working with the special needs community, bringing hockey to a team of enthusiastic young skaters.
