History of the Ottawa Police Association
On December 7, 1948, the Ottawa Police Association received its first Charter with approximately 200 police members. Over the past 75 years, the OPA has evolved into one of the largest and most respected Police Associations in Ontario as well as Canada.
Presently, the OPA represents over 2100 Uniform and Civilian members who are employees of the Ottawa Police Service. The objectives of the Association are to unite fraternally and promote the mutual interest of its Members; to uphold the honour of the police profession and to provide support and financial assistance in accordance with the OPA Bylaws.
